Still Insane is a story about learning to cope with everyday life after you have spent so long relying on substance abuse to keep your mind and thoughts intact.
For Calcite, substance abuse helped keep his emotions at bay and helped him function while ignoring depression.
Calcite explains ‘‘So once a person becomes sober after this, they are left with the battle of withdrawal and the challenge of starting everyday with a busy and often chaotic mind. It seems impossible to keep your brain entertained, but for me, thanks to you I’m still insane, referring to my own substance abuse and how I had to face everyday without it, in some cases even missing it.”
Quitting something that feels like a part of you is like losing an old friend.
“Keep an ear out for my heart”, is a reference to meditation which Calcite used to assist his brain with breaking free from the need to feel numb.
The song can sound like he is talking about a toxic relationship as he felt like that was the best way to express his situation.
